ANXIETY AND DEPRESSION IN ADULTS
As we progress through different life stages anxiety can arise. Anxiety is a normal and helpful emotion but when we experience it too strongly or too often it can start to interfere in our daily lives. Common challenges which can give rise to anxiety include starting work, transitions including parenthood, relocation, retirement or other transitions.
- Do you experience panic attacks that make it difficult to complete everyday tasks e.g. getting to and from work, completing tasks at work, shopping, being in crowded places or on public transport?
- Or perhaps you find you are constantly worried about your health despite reassurance from tests and medical practitioners?
- Perhaps your lack of confidence has made it hard to complete further education and get on in your career.
- Do you wish you could confidently interact with people you need to?
- Do you worry constantly about everything? Does this result in muscle aches and tension headaches?
- Or maybe you have disturbing thoughts that are intrusive or perhaps you are worried you have Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD).
All of these may be signs that you have clinical levels of anxiety.
Seeing a psychologist does not just involve talking about your problems (although that is an important part of treatment). Lesley would work with you to so that you can learn and apply the tools to overcome your difficulties.
Peri-Natal Issues & Parenting
Lesley also has a strong interest in supporting new and prospective parents. This might involve helping manage anxiety or depression in parents during pregnancy and the first years of parenting.
Lesley can also assist with parenting tools for assisting with common childhood difficulties (eg poor sleep, childhood fears). A little support can build a parent’s confidence. Unfortunately, children don’t come with an instruction manual!
Lesley also sees clients with others difficulties including depression (including bi-polar disorder), and adjusting to the challenges life can throw at us.
